I was getting ready for work early one morning and the doorbell rug it was the county sheriff giving me a summons from Midland Credit Management, I was being sued, and I have 14 days to respond or a judgement would be made against me.

I responded back by denying the debt because I never heard of Midland. That was the end of Oct. 2008. They sent me pages of charges for the alleged credit card.

Just this past weekend I received a letter giving me the date and time to be in court. I called the courthouse and I am to be in court next week. I'm pissed.

Any paperwork they send you be sure to fill it out completly. Even if you did not earn the debt put n/a or I dont know or something. If you dont they will automatically win.

Go to the hearing and bring any proofs you might need that you did not incur this debt. Bank statements, credit reports, anything. Seek some form of legal counsel, as well. If they are awarded judgment, they can garnish your check or take the money directly from your account. They can even convert the debt into a lien on any properties you might own.

The most important thing is to go to the hearing. If you don't, they win AUTOMATICALLY.

Check on the statute of limitations on old debt in your state. This might help you out in fighting this scavenger collection agency.
