Tried to collect non existent debt
Jun 13, 2008
Midland Credit Management review by Tony21
I recently received a letter from Midland Credit Management. They were trying to collect a non-existent debt from me.

They were offering me a 40% reduced settlement.

I tried to look them up online. But there was no website for them. Only links to sites like this one.

I called to discuss this matter. The gentleman was pleasant.

I explained I never had credit from the company they had listed on the letter and that I recently received a copy of my credit report with nothing listed there either.

The conversation was short. "Oh, its an old debt and we just send letters out to see if we can collect on them. If we can we can we can, if we can't then oh well." was what he told me. "In your case we will just delete it from our records." He continued.

I find it very suspicious (especially after reading many of the other post on different sites about this company) that a company (if the debt were real) would let go of it so easily.

I had debt collectors after me in my younger years. I know exactly how aggressive they can be.

To just simply state they will delete it from their records is odd at best.

Beware of these types of scams. Internet, letters etc... Some people will just pay it and make someone a little money.
