Midland Credit Management complaint by Sandy1112
I received a letter in the mail today saying that I owed $130 for a past due phone bill. I called Midland to dispute the debt because I have never had a home telephone in my name. The first b**ch I talked to was very rude and said the only info she could tell me was that it was my name and B-day on the debt and that I was responsible. Then she hung up. I called again, different rep but same story and hung up on me again.

This IS NOT my debt and I don't know what to do!!! I have very good credit and don't want this to ruin it. Anybody have any advice?

Easy. Write a letter. That way you have proof of a dispute. Ask for copies of the entire account they have. When they send it double check the accurancy of the bill and numbers called. If it's not yours and bill wasn't generated by a family member, say so in a second letter. Ask them to expunge the reported entry. By law they have thrity days from the date they receive the second letter to either prove it's yours or remove it. You might want to call the company who says you owe the bill and prove the number hasn't been hijacked - tapped illegally into the phone company pedistal. Everyone involved has thrity days from date of notification to act. Remember if it's not in writing from you, you have no proof of disputing the bill.
